What a day!!
My son Carter, and friend Diana Lesieur, and I booked and reserved a Whitehall Spirit® Tango 17 from the Whitehall Spirit® Rowing Club of Victoria docks in Oak Bay (whrclub.com), near Victoria, British Columbia. We launched the Whitehall rowboat, rowed out a ways from the dock, and then sent down a couple of crab traps with bait.

We loaded the traps with Salmon trim acquired from one of our local fish markets. Salmon trim is the best bait. Crabs go mad over fresh salmon trim.

We rowed out to one of the local crabbing areas and looked for a suitable spot to drop the traps. This whole area out in Oak Bay is very good for catching both Red Rock and Dungeness crabs.

We dropped our traps into the water and then went off for a long row in the Tango rowboat while we waited for some crab action on the traps. It’s so nice to be able to also get in a good rowing workout while out on such a great adventure!

It doesn’t take long before hungry crabs start climbing in! The Red Rock and Dungeness crabs battle it our for a snack. I wonder how many males we will get that are the right size to keep?

We haul up the traps and sort out the keepers! What a great catch on a great day!
It is really amazing to see the crabs as they enter the crab trap!
